SSK-50 Receiver – Lynx (Frame only)

The original Thompson Center Contender® is lightweight, streamlined, and one of the most adaptable firearms ever produced. Warren Center created an exceptional design, and Ken Thompson delivered the manufacturing skill needed to bring that vision to life.

More than fifty years and over 580,000 firearms later, we’ve refined this classic using modern materials and updated production methods, resulting in a platform that is even stronger and more accurate than the original. The SSK-50 carries forward the heritage of the first design while maintaining full cross-compatibility with Contender® barrels and components.

This receiver works with Thompson Center/SSK G1/G2 Contender® barrels made after the TC Generation 1 era. The SSK-50 receiver is not compatible with TC Generation 1 barrels. Because some third-party barrel manufacturers deviate from TC dimensional standards, we cannot guarantee proper fit with those barrels.

The SSK-50 is manufactured to the nominal dimensional standards of the final Thompson Center Contender design with exceptional accuracy and minimal deviation. This establishes a new standard for frame uniformity. Consequently, over 56 years of Contender barrel production from at least eight different manufacturers has resulted in an evolution of barrel geometry and tolerances that cannot be fully accommodated in a fixed-frame design.

Furthermore, while customers report a very high rate of successful frame-to-barrel fit with the SSK-50, some barrels may fall sufficiently outside Thompson Center’s original specifications and therefore may not operate correctly with the SSK-50.

* The SSK-50 is produced to the nominal geometry specifications of the last iteration of the Thompson Center Contender with extreme precision and low variation. This new frame sets a benchmark for consistency. That said, the old design was not nearly as consistent so, there MAY be some older Contender barrels/after-market barrel brands that won’t function in this new SSK-50 frame.
